Grand Canyon Tour Highlights
If you want to add even more excitement to your Las Vegas vacation, add a Grand Canyon tour on the itinerary. This day trip, featured by local tour operators, such as Grand Canyon Destinations, allows you to witness the South Rim or West Rim of the Canyon. Hiking one of the trails or taking the shuttle to sites, such as Grand Canyon Village, represents some of the Grand Canyon tour highlights you can experience on this one-of-a-kind journey.
Following are some more of the Grand Canyon tour highlights that you can add to your day trip schedule:
1. Grand Canyon Village
This popular site at the South Rim of the canyon is a great escape to yesterday. Home to Yavapai Point, the village offers visitors a chance to experience the canyon in another place and time. Yavapai Point is noted as being one of the best places to see the surrounding scenery.
2. The West Rim
Less crowded than the canyon’s South Rim, the West Rim is home to the unique glass cantilever bridge, the Skywalk. The projecting horse-shoe shaped bridge enables visitors to see far below into the canyon’s depths. While it may seem scary at first to walk on the see-through platform, don’t be afraid. The glass is designed so it can hold a voluminous amount of weight. This is one of the must-see Grand Canyon tour highlights on a West Rim Grand Canyon tour.
3. The Rim Trail
This South Rim trail offers a moderate hike and begins at Grand Canyon Village, extending to Hermits Rest. The trail enables visitors to experience a quiet view of the inner part of the canyon. Bring plenty of water with you, as none is available west of the Bright Angle Lodge.
4. South Kaibab Trail
You can access this South Rim Trail by shuttle or by way of the Rim Trail. If you want a more challenging hike, or are seasoned to hiking, this is the trail to take.
5. The Bright Angel Trail
This trail is a maintained dirt trail with some shade. It is one of the most popular pathways in the Grand Canyon and the South Rim. It begins at Grand Canyon Village and descends just over 4,300 feet to the Colorado River. The average grade for the trail is 10%. At the end of the trek, you will emerge onto the River Trail, which leads to the Phantom Ranch, a popular lodge inside the park.
6. Kolb Studio
This historical building is located in the South Rim in Grand Canyon Village. The studio served as the photography business of brothers, Emery and Ellsworth Kolb from 1904 to 1976.
